Spotting Summer Trends
07.08.13I have a love-hate relationship with summer. I hate it when I am in the sizzling heat, but I love summer when it isn’t around. One positive about the summer heat is that you are able to wear as little or as much clothing as you want. When dressing for the summer, you can go with an easy sundress or try out a new trend for the season. This summer there are four trends that I am constantly sporting: the leather skirt, denim shorts, overalls, and a graphic t-shirt.

The Leather Skirt
Leather does not have to be just for the cooler weather. Wear leather in small doses, and you’ll find that look easily fits into your summer wardrobe. I paired my faux leather skirt with a sheer blouse. The blouse helps keep the outfit light and easy. If you aren’t one for a sheer blouse then I suggest that you pair the leather look with a printed tie-front blouse. Finish off the outfit with a pop of color from chromatic sunglasses.
Denim Shorts
A denim short is a staple to beat the summer heat. I didn’t want just throw on a t-shirt with denim short and run out the door, but that is always an option, and nowadays it’s a stylish look. Not only do I like the denim short trend, I also take the trend to another level by incorporating mixed print accessories. The cheetah belt is just enough. I add my wedge sneakers in the mix to give myself a little height. To get the look, start with a basic denim short , and add a shirt of your choice; floral, stripe or solid tops will all work.
Overalls
Overalls are a tricky trend. If you want my honest opinion, I cannot get enough of them. I find them extremely easy to wear to brunch with girlfriends or the farmer’s market. For this look, I opted for a floral blouse and a colorful fedora. My overalls are a thrift find, but I have spotted plenty of overall budget finds, such as the BDG Denim Overalls ( $79) found at Urban Outfitters or the Boyfriend Shortall at Free People ($298). You can pair them with a simple tank top or a blouse, depending on what look you want.
The Graphic Tee
A graphic tee is great to dress up or down. You could easily pair it with a denim short or wear it with a skirt for a work option. It is important to note that the t-shirt doesn’t have to be just for working out. Another option is to dress up the look with a sparkling necklace or earring.
