Autumn Beauty Trends
09.25.12Fall is an invigorating time of year. Brisk weather, autumn leaves, boots, scarves, all things cinnamon and spicy. And the myriad beauty trends are just another intriguing element of the season. Of course we are seeing a lot of rich, deep colors. But soft, pale colors are also a hit for the coming months. Cotton Candy beauty contributor Claudia Mejerle shares the top trends from head to toe.

Eyes – Smoky Brown
Smoky eyes have been big for some time, but this fall’s translation of the ever-popular look is all about browns. This look can work on just about any skin tone, and you can adjust the intensity based on the level of drama you want to achieve. Blending is important to make the shadow soft and seamless.
Brows – Bold brows
Women often neglect their brows. Maintaining the shape with regular tweezing is a must, but filling in the shape with brow powder has the power to transform your whole look. Bold brows are powerful enough to stand alone with minimal makeup because they frame your face and draw attention to your eyes.
Lips – Black Cherry
Red lips are always going to be beauty staple. But this fall, black cherry is the new red. Deep red lips are romantic and instantly dress up your face. Don’t forget to start with a matching lip liner to keep the shape nice and crisp. Pair them with fresh, polished skin and don’t forget to warm up your cheeks with some bronzer or blush. You don’t want there to be too much contrast between your lips and skin—it could look unflattering.
Cheeks – Flushed, Rosy Cheeks
Get inspired by the flushed cheeks in frigid weather. Rosy cheeks are flirty. Keep the rest of your makeup simple so you don’t look overdone and dated. A cream blush is your best bet to achieve the lit-from-within look – the product practically melts into your skin, making you look naturally rosy. Don’t be afraid to use more blush than you normally would, but blend.
Hair – Low, Sleek Bun
Look polished with a low, sleek bun. This is one hairstyle that is timeless because of its chic look and simplicity. Start with a deep side part and gather hair into a low, tight ponytail. Twist the ends into a bun and secure with hairpins. It’s a sophisticated hairstyle worthy of a night on the town.
Nails – Dark and Plum
There is something about having your nails polished— a subtle change that makes you instantly polished. This season put the finishing touch on your look with dark, bold nails. Grays, blues, purples and reds are all great nail colors. Make sure to keep your nails short and square to keep the look modern and paint on two generous coats of polish to ensure the color is bold.
