Behind the Scenes at Bluemercury
10.18.14A beauty expert or not, I know a lot of women—like me—get all giddy roaming the beauty section of a drug store or lose themselves while experimenting with products in a department store. It’s fun regardless of what we buy. But there is a beauty store new to Atlanta that delivers an experience unlike others.
Bluemercury has a beautiful new location in the heart of Buckhead. If you haven’t been to a Bluemercury and you are a cosmetic lover like myself, you are missing out. I dream of my bathroom looking like the inside of this place: a spacious, well-lit, organized space with gray marble countertops and cool blue and white walls. And most importantly, products galore.
I had the pleasure of visiting the new Buckhead store upon opening this summer and also got to spend some time with co-founder of Bluemercury, Marla Beck. I was so excited to pick Beck’s brain and learn how Bluemercury came to be and what makes it special.
In the late 90s, Beck saw a gap in how and where women could shop for the best personal care products. She was frustrated that there wasn’t a convenient place to buy all her favorite products and learn about new ones. So she put her business brains and love for cosmetics to good use along with her husband’s entrepreneurial spirit, and Bluemercury was born.
Beck has always been a beauty enthusiast, but now with her role running the country’s largest and fastest growing luxury beauty and spa retail chain, brands seek her out to get their latest and greatest products in front of her. She said her desk is regularly overflowing with products that were sent to her to try—I can’t even imagine.
I had to ask Beck to let me in on her favorite products that Bluemercury offers. She’s a huge fan of:
- Darphin INTRAL Toner
- M-61 Power Glow Peel
- Laura Mercier Blush in Lotus
- Bobbi Brown Bronzer in Medium
- Trish McEvoy Lip Gloss in Sexy Nude
- Nars Tinted Moisturizer
If you dug through my professional kit or personal makeup stash, you would find that most of my products could be found at Bluemercury. Trish McEvoy, Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, Nars and Bumble and Bumble are my favorites. Some of their products I can’t live without are:
- Trish McEvoy Sheer Lip Color in Sheer Florence
- Bobbi Brown Blush in Pale Pink
- Laura Mercier Eye Shadow in Bamboo
