07.08.11

We know. You’re already a beautiful, beach bunny enjoying the summer warmth. And of course, you want to attractive beach hair to go with your coastal look. Cotton Candy asked for the advice of some of the most respected hair experts from Pierre Michel Salon, and they’re sharing their best summer secrets for dazzling summer hair.

Anthony Linzalone, celebrity stylist: “For long hair this summer, try beach-waved hair. It’s a natural look for hair, and it’s not a lot of fuss to create the style or maintain the look. To create the look, make sure you start with clean, conditioned hair. Rub in some crèmes or oils to let your hair air dry, which creates shiny, soft and wavy hair. When you apply the

hair products, the hair should be slightly angled and layered from the bottom, and use your nose as your guide. Long hair can be wrapped and swept to the side using a braid. Wrapping your hair in a loose bun and a classic ponytail will also always work for this summer wavy look.

For shorter hair, keep hair close to your neck and tapered. Leave it longer in the front but textured for a loose, tousled top.

To keep your hair color vibrant through the summer use spray protectors, and for shiny mane remember to keep your hair clean and conditioned. Because of the heat, extra conditioning during summer months is always the key. A weekly, deep-conditioning mask treatment is best.

For the man in your life, he should try surfer-boy shags or barbershop-clean buzz cuts, but leaving some hair on the top.”

Ludovic Audesson, celebrity colorist: “For the color, it is important to do the balayage on the hairline to create a subtle, sun-kissed look. You can add shine to your hair from using a little oil from Yarok, which all nourishes

the hair to keep it healthy not just in the summer but all year long. To avoid your color from fading or dull highlights, use a sun protective oil or veil whenever you plan to be in the sun, versus wearing a hat.”

Chris Brescia, celebrity colorist: “The trends for hair this summer are great. … One look that has been great has been on wavy hair is a collarbone cut, with sexy layers throughout, sweeping bangs and angles that accentuate the best features of your face. This allows the hair to move and jump without getting out of control. On straighter hair, we encourage a shorter cut. When at the beach or as you lay by the pool, it’s best to protect your hair color with Phytoplage L’Originale Protective Beach Spray, a powerful mist chock full of UV filters. A protective beach spray will give you maximum protection for your color against the sun, salt water and chlorine. For shine you can use Angela Cosmai’s Color Hair Care “Give Me Shine” Spray, which also has protective agents in it. You can also use Moroccan Oil, which is a bit thicker, but some hair types need the weight.”
